Naval Battle rules
How Naval Battle is played in this game, including the keys and the scoring.
Goal
Sink the whole enemy fleet before the admiral sinks yours. Each side hides five ships on a 10 by 10 sea and fires at the other one in turns.
The fleet
- Carrier: 5 squares
- Battleship: 4 squares
- Cruiser: 3 squares
- Submarine: 3 squares
- Destroyer: 2 squares
- Ships lie straight, across or down, and may touch each other but never overlap.
Placing the fleet
Your ships start in a random layout. Tap a ship to pick it, tap a square to move it there, Rotate turns it, Shuffle deals a new layout. Press Ready when you like it.
Firing
- On your turn tap a square of the enemy sea. You see a miss, a hit, or a hit that sinks a ship; a sunk ship is shown whole.
- On a phone the first tap aims and Fire (or a second tap on the same square) shoots.
- Extra shot after a hit is an option: when it is on, every hit gives you another shot.
- Keyboard: arrows move the aim, Enter or Space fires; while placing, R rotates, S shuffles and G is ready.
Admirals
- Rookie fires almost at random.
- Veteran searches in a chessboard pattern and finishes a wounded ship.
- Fleet admiral works out where the ships still afloat can be. None of them can see your ships.
Score and daily challenge
A win scores 101 minus your shots, times 1, 2 or 3 for the admiral. The daily challenge gives everyone the same enemy fleet; your first result of the day counts.
